Dear Kindergarten and First Grade Families,

We have returned to our study of the Rainforest.  We have been reading and acting out the story The Great Kapok Tree.  We made 3D animals to put in our classroom rainforest.  We completed a variety of activities to go along with and help learn all about the rainforest.

We visited the Onekama Public Library for the last time this year.  Miss Jane had a spring craft for us to do.  If you see her over the summer be sure to thank her for all the fun things she planned for us throughout the year.

Our buddy reading beach party will be tomorrow afternoon.  Be sure to pack your child a lunch.  The weather is supposed to be chilly so be sure they have plenty of clothing.  It is usually colder by the lake where we will be spending our afternoon.  They may bring beach toys and games to play if they wish.  They also need their permission slip.  Some of them haven’t brought their signed slip yet so be sure to do that tomorrow.

There are also a few of you who still have spring pictures to turn in.  If you are buying them please send a check and order form, otherwise we need them back.

Please be sure your child is bringing a bag to school each day.  There are lots of things going home right now.  Thank-you!

Upcoming events you may want to add to your calendar:

  • Thursday, May 17thMoomer’s field trip

  • Buddy reading beach party – May 25th

First grade 90 word spelling tests came home today.  The score written in orange is their score from earlier in the year.  Definite growth has taken place in all of them!  The words your child misspelled are words I would suggest practicing over the summer months.

Kindergarten students took the spelling test too.  I did not score them, but feel free to look it over and know that your child will take this test next year after our Christmas vacation.

First grade completed their end of the year math assessment.  Be looking for those to come home next week.  The results of the assessment will let me know where they are at and I will let next year’s teachers know.
