The fourth grade went to Hardwick Pines on May 16, 2007. We left to go to Hardwick Pines at 10:00 AM. The drive was two hours long. I sat with Jacinda and Janique in one seat. We stopped at the park in Hardwick Pines for lunch. We even got to play for a little bit. After that we finally got to Hardwick Pines State Park. Our speaker’s name is Dale. She taught us a lot of things about nature such as safety, habitats, and animals who live in their state park. She also told us about this tree which was dead. She told us how the tree has died. “The tree’s have their bark just as you have skin”, said Dale. Next she let us off to a man who called him a Land looker. A land looker is a man who is looking for land. He acted as if he was from the 1850’s (he was dressed up like a man from the 1850’s, too).He told us about his job and why he was there. He told us about how to recognize a Red Pine from a White Pine. “ You can tell a White Pine from a Red Pine is that a White Pine has 5 needles. So you can remember the needles by spelling WHITE on the needles and Red Pine has only 2 needles in a bundle so you can remember it as Red Pine,” Mr. Land Looker said. Then we walked to the old Logging Company and was turned over to Mr. French. He gave us a History Lesson while pretending that we were new loggers in the logging company. He showed us the cook shanty ,the bunk house, and his office. (continued to next column)
