Mrs. Niederstadt's
Parent Letter

May 24, 2007

Dear Parents,

Today was an exciting day.  We had to move into Mr. Neph’s fifth grade classroom.  Luckily their classroom was open; they were on a field trip.  We had flying bugs in our classroom.  Mr. Brandis used a “bug bomb.”  I hope the classroom will be cleaned and ready for tomorrow.  If not, then we will close the wall in Mr. Neph’s classroom and use the extra classroom used for study hall.  Students will not be allowed to use their water bottles.  They should be cleaned before using them again.  Please send in another water bottle for tomorrow.

Tomorrow is our annual Buddy Reading Beach party.  We will be at the Onekama Village Park from 11:00 – 2:30.  Your child needs to bring a sack lunch, water bottle, sun block, hat, jacket/sweater, towel, and beach toys in a backpack or duffel bag.  Please be sure your child’s name is on all items.  The cafeteria is selling sack lunches for $1.75.  If you are interested, then please send the money in with your child.  The children will not be allowed to wade in the water or ride on the merry-go-round for safety reasons.  Currently I have three chaperones: Mrs. Bronson, Mrs. Falk and Mrs. Somerville.

There is no school on Monday due to the holiday.  See you on Tuesday.

On Wednesday we will participate in Good Behavior Field Day.  It is from 12:00 – 2:30 p.m. on the football field.  In order to be prepared for the weather, you may want to send in a coat/sweater, water bottle and hat with your child.  Also it would be a good day to have sun block on.  The Lions Club will provide hot dogs, popcorn, and pop for an afternoon snack.  Please find enclosed note from Mrs. Hagen.  Volunteers help make this day a great success.  If you are able to lead an event/activity, then please complete the form and send it to school with your child.

On Thursday students need to bring an extra bag.  They will take their belongings home.

Friday is our last day of school.  After lunch we will walk to Blue Slipper Pizzeria.  Students will use the money from their money holders to purchase some ice cream.  Please send in $0.50 (no more than $0.50 please) for your child to use in addition to the money that you sent in at the beginning of the school year.  The ice cream cones cost $1.00.  We should have $1.95 in our money holders, but students have lost some money throughout the year.  Afterwards we will go to the Onekama Village Park to spend the remainder of our day.  We will return back to the school at 2:30 p.m.  Please note that your child’s report card will come home in his/her Thursday Folder.  If you have any questions, then please feel free to call me on Monday until noon.

Enclosed is your child’s first grade spelling test and spelling graph.  The first grade test consists of ninety words that your child should know by the end of first grade.  Your child took this test in January.  Any misspelled words were your child’s first individualized spelling words.  I gave this test again last week to see our growth.  Most students are above the first grade average of 69 words.  During the summer you may want to practice any misspelled words.

Warmly,

Shantel
