Mrs. Niederstadt's Parent Letter

January 4, 2007

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year!!  I hope you had a happy and restful holiday.  I would like to thank you for all the wonderful classroom supplies.  We received pencils, erasers, construction paper, glue sticks, post-it notes, colored pencils and lots of dry erase markers.  Thank you all so much!!!

Tomorrow we will walk to the Onekama Public Library.  We’ll leave at 12:45 and should return by 1:30.  Students need to return their books in their new library bags made on our last library visit.  They will be able to check out three new books.  Also students will complete their second magazine test.  You’ll receive your child’s magazine test in January’s report card.

Next week first grade will begin a new reading unit called “Sharing Time.”  It includes stories called The Doorbell Rang, The Little Red Hen and Flower Garden.  Also poems such as “My Mami Takes Me to the Bakery,” “Together” and “Flowers.”  On the reverse of this sheet are the new vocabulary words for this unit.  Please take time to review these words with your child.  Over the next few weeks, you will see four books come home: I Like Cats, A Big Help, Great Frogs! and In the Cow’s Backyard.  These books will include the new vocabulary words.

Enclosed are the Good Behavior Ski Forms.  We are going to Crystal Mountain on Thursday, February 15th.  The forms need to be completed and returned by Thursday, January 11th.
