Mrs. Niederstadt's
Parent Letter

April 12, 2007

Dear Parents,

Tomorrow we will walk to the Onekama Public Library.  We will leave at 11:45 and should return around 1:30ish.  Students should bring their books in their library book bag.  If your child returns his/her books, then s/he may check out three books.  These books will be due Friday, May 4th.

Next we will begin Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS). The format will be similar to our magazine tests.  We will test in the mornings only.  Please be sure your child is to school on time and has had a good breakfast.   We will test on Monday - Thursday.  Due to ITBS test, there will be no spelling test or homework for the week of April 16th – 20th

Next Tuesday Life Touch will be here to take spring pictures.  No money needs to be sent in at this time.  Students’ pictures will be sent home in several weeks.  Enclosed will be a price list.  If you would like to purchase part or all of them, then you can send in the money.  If you do not want them, just return them to school with your child.

As I discussed with you at parent-teacher conferences, the remainder of the school year will focus more on science and social studies.  We have four science units to cover: Earth Day-Recycling, Rocks, Landforms, and Vertebrates.  Ms. Schultz and I have made arrangements for all first grade students to come into my classroom to learn these units.  Ms. Schultz will stay in her classroom to teach her kindergarten units and I will stay in my classroom along with Mrs. Zajac or Mrs. Cook, our Title 1 personnel to help me.  All the science concepts are exploration.  This will be a great opportunity for all first graders to work together.  In order to make this schedule work; I did have to make a few changes in our enrichment schedule.  I’ve enclosed a new copy.  Next week we will discuss Earth Day-Recycling in honor of Earth Day on Sunday, April 22nd.

During the month of April, our class is collecting non-perishable items for the local food pantry.  All of the food collected is distributed to families in our area.  Please send in your contributions throughout the month.

The school store will open tomorrow.  Beginning next week students will be able to purchase items from school store every Wednesday.  All proceeds collected will be used for elementary activities.

Enclosed is information about Alex’s Lemonade Stand.  The Onekama Middle School Student Council will have a lemonade stand on April 17, 19, 23 and 24 during lunch.  For more information please find the enclosed paper.

Warmly,

Shantel
