Miss Schultz's Parent Letter

Thursday, September 29, 2005

Dear Kindergarten Families,

Our theme this week has been apples and we have been learning the sound and how to write the letter Aa. At the language center students completed their Aa book, 2 tongue twister activities and a die-cut letter A. Please find a spot at home for the letters that are coming home so they can be practiced and reinforced. At the writing center students practiced writing the letter Aa, drew a picture of something beginning with Aa, practiced writing the letter Aa in sand and made letters and pictures with wikki stix. At the math center students learned to write the numbers 4 and 5 and they added the numbers 7, 8, 9 & 10 to their number stamping books. They also played a counting game. At the theme art center they heard the story The Seasons of Arnold’s Apple Tree and made a poster showing how an apple tree looks during each season of the year.

During our extra time throughout the week we learned that there are 5 seeds in an apple. I showed the kids the apple star, and they made apple stamps. We read 10 Apples up on top and they drew their faces and placed apple stickers on their drawn heads. Tomorrow we will taste red, yellow and green apples and graphing the colors we liked best. I will also be making applesauce to have for our afternoon snack.

Please remember to help your child find something that begins with the letter Aa for show and tell tomorrow. Also, our last hat day is tomorrow so please help with the hurricane relief fund once more.

You will find an October snack calendar with this letter. Please be sure to send in snack for 16 kids on the day your child is scheduled. Please continue to send at least 1 snack that your child can have in the afternoon. Also along with this letter is the schedule and explanation of my All About Me bulletin board — let me know if you have any questions.

Questions to ask your child this week are the following:

  1. What sound does the letter Aa make?
  2. Can you tell me 3-5 words that begin with the letter Aa?
  3. How does an apple tree look in the Fall? Winter? Spring? Summer?
  4. How many seeds are in an apple?

We have another nice weekend in store for us — ENJOY!!

Sincerely,

Miss Schultz
