Miss Schultz's Parent Letter

Tuesday, September 22, 2005

Dear Kindergarten Parents,

We have begun our core literacy centers and this week they consisted of the following: At the language center students completed an Ss book. They highlighted the letter Ss on each page, practiced writing the letter Ss on the cover and read the book to me when they were finished. They completed 2 Ss tongue twister activities and they decorated a die-cut letter S. At the writing center students practiced writing the letter Ss, drew something that begins with Ss, practiced writing the letter Ss in sand and used Wikki Sticks to form the letter Ss and something that begins with Ss. At the math center students learned how to write the numbers 2 and 3 and they made a number book beginning at 0 and ending at six with number words and the correct amount of stamps on each page. At the theme art center our parent volunteers played some 5 senses games and helped students complete a 5 senses book. Each student read their book to their parent volunteer.

We will be having our first buddy reading session on Friday. This activity allows our Kindergarten class to share books with another classroom. They always enjoy hearing the older children read to them. The fourth and fifth grade split class will be visiting us on Friday.

Please remember to refer to the snack schedule so you know when your child is responsible for providing our morning snack. Afternoon snack is not provided so please be sure you are packing healthy snacks for your child to eat in the afternoon.

All this week we have been learning about the letter Ss. Please help your child find something that begins with Ss to bring in for Show and Tell tomorrow.

Questions to ask your child this week are the following:

  • What sound does the letter Ss make?
  • Can you tell me 3-5 words that begin with the letter Ss?
  • What are the 5 senses?
  • What are some things that your 5 senses can help you enjoy?
  • How do your 5 senses help you detect danger?

Have a wonderful weekend!!

Sincerely,

Miss Schultz (231) 889-9674
