Miss Schultz's Parent Letter

Thursday, November 17th, 2005

Dear Kindergarten Families,

We have continued our rhyme study this week with the reading of The Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss. At the theme art center students made a cat with a hat and they learned words that rhyme with cat. I have been reading a variety of poems and rhyming books and we have practiced hearing rhyme pairs. Our letter of the week is Tt. At the language center students completed their Tt books, Tt tongue twisters and a die-cut letter T. At the writing center students practiced writing the letter Tt, drew a Tt picture, wrote a sentence, practiced with sand and wikki stix and they walked around the room and wrote words they found that begin with Tt. At the math center students were asked to test a variety of objects to see if they sink or float. They also used a pan balance to decide whether object were heavy or light.

I have a Thanksgiving feast planned for next week (the 23rd) I still need the following items:

  • Different colored feathers
  • Beans (all varieties)
  • cornbread mix
  • cardstock paper
  • Carrots celery
  • whipping cream

If you can donate any of the above items I would really appreciate it!!

Show — and — Tell will be tomorrow so please help your child find something that begins with the letter Tt to share with our class.

Questions to ask your child this week are the following:

  1. Can you tell me the letter Tt sound?
  2. Can you tell me 3-5 words that begin with the letter Tt?
  3. Can you tell me words that rhyme with wall?
  4. Can you tell me words that rhyme with cat?
