Miss Schultz's Parent Letter

November 4th, 2005

Dear Kindergarten Families,

This week we have been talking all about bears and the letter Bb. At the language center students completed their Bb book, 2 Bb tongue twisters and they decorated a die-cut letter B. At the writing center students practiced writing the letter Bb, drew a picture of something beginning with Bb, wrote a sentence to describe their picture and they wrote words from around the room that begin with Ss, Aa, Cc, Ll, Pp, Hh and Bb. At the math center students completed a November calendar, and the learned how to measure with a ruler. First they measured things with their foot and then they measured with a ruler. At the theme art center our Mom volunteers read Corduroy by Don Freeman helped the students comprehend what happened in the beginning, middle and end of the story to make into a poster. They also read a poem about hibernation and colored animals for a poster I will be hanging in the hall. They chose animals and colored them for a mobile I will be hanging in our classroom library.

Our conferences will be held Thursday, Nov. 10th and Friday, Nov. 11th. Please be sure you call Mary Bergren in the office to set up a time to meet with me. I am looking forward to sharing your child’s successes with you!

On Wednesday, November 23rd I am planning a Thanksgiving feast! We will be making vegetable soup and dressing as Native American’s and Pilgrims. The following is a list of things I need. If you are willing to donate anything on the list I would greatly appreciate it!

cornbread mix, carrots, celery, beans, chicken broth, potatoes, whipping cream, peas, colored feathers, heavy cardstock paper, corn

Questions to ask your child this week are the following:

  1. Can you tell me 3-5 words that begin with the letter Bb?
  2. What is the Bb sound?
  3. What does it mean when a bear hibernates?
  4. How high can you count by 1’s?
  5. Please be sure your child brings something for show - and - tell tomorrow.
  6. Help them find things that begin with the letter Bb.

Have a great weekend!!

Sincerely,

Miss Schultz
