Miss Schultz's Parent Letter

Thursday, March 16th, 2006

Dear Kindergarten Families,

This week at the language center students completed an —ack word family book and they finished letters Oo, Pp, Qq and Rr in their alphabet books. They also put together sentence puzzles to read and write the common words from the sentences in baggies of paint.

At the writing center students completed a journal prompt. They made an I eat pattern book and they did a word family sentence writing activity.

At the math center students completed a variety of activities to reinforce the concepts we have been studying. They drew lines to match the coin with its value, and they completed a counting change activity. I introduced estimation and they practiced estimating and then counting their actual amount. They also practiced addition and subtraction with flash cards.

Our Mom volunteers helped students at the theme art center by reading Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star and playing two s-blend games. The students also worked on finishing our animal alphabet book.

We have continued working on our Michigan Wildlife books. Thus far, we have learned about the Brook Trout, Robin, and Painted Turtle.

Please remember that tomorrow is a dress-up day. Please help your child wear clothing to look like a lumberjack. Your child should know a little about the responsibilities of a lumberjack because we had a mini-lesson about the type of work they used to do.

Conferences will be held the week we come back from Spring Break. They are on Thursday, April 6th beginning at 6:00 and ending at 9:00. These will be a first come first serve basis. We are not scheduling them individually. If you would rather schedule a specific time to meet with me I would be happy to arrange that, just let me know. Thank-you! I look forward to talking to you about your child’s academic success.

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day tomorrow!! Enjoy your weekend!

Sincerely,

Miss Schultz
