Miss Schultz's Parent Letter

Thursday, January 5, 2005

Dear Kindergarten Families,

Happy New Year!! I hope you all had a nice, restful holiday. I can tell the kids are glad to be back. It is nice to share in their renewed energy.

We have started out the new year with a winter story called The Mitten by Jan Brett. At the theme art center students made their own Mitten and all the animals from the story so they can retell the story on their own. They also wrote about their favorite part of the story.

At the language center students worked on Ww books, Ww tongue twisters, a language cut-and-paste activity, and a die-cut letter W.

At the writing center students practiced writing the letter Ww, drew a picture of something that begins with Ww, practiced with sand and wikki sticks, completed a Hickory, Dickory Dock rhyming word clock and they found words from around the room that begin with Ww.

At the math center students made a January calendar and completed a domino addition activity.

Please remember that there will be no school next week Friday the 13th due to a teacher inservice.

Questions to ask your child this week are the following:

  1. What sound does the letter Ww make?
  2. Can you tell me 3-5 words that begin with the letter Ww?
  3. Can you count up to 10 by 2’s?
  4. How high can you count by 5’s?

Have a good weekend!

Sincerely,

Miss Schultz
