Miss Schultz's Parent Letter

Thursday, January 26, 2006

Dear Kindergarten Families,

The letters we have been studying this week are Nn and Uu. At the language center students completed Nn and Uu books, Nn and Uu tongue twisters, die-cut letters N and U and a language cut-and-paste activity that focused on ending sounds.

At the writing center students practiced writing Nn and Uu, drew pictures of things beginning with Nn and Uu, wrote a sentence describing their picture, practiced the letters in sand and in wikki stix and they wrote the room.

At the math center students wrote and illustrated an addition story and a take-away story. These will be put together to make 2 class books.

At the theme art center students learned the Cackle, Cackle, Mother Goose rhyme and played 2 letter and word games. Then they made a winter book after the winter poem we have been reading.

Our ski day is next Tuesday, January 31st. Please be sure to pack your child a lunch that day. They may also go and get a sack lunch from the cafeteria if that is easier. We will be leaving school at approximately 8:30 and returning to school at approximately 2:30. If you are going along please plan to drive to Crystal Mountain separately so we have enough room on the bus for both Kindergarten classes.

Questions to ask your child this week are the following:

  1. What sound do the letters Nn and Uu make?
  2. Can you tell me 3-5 words that begin with the letter Nn? The letter Uu?
  3. Can you read any words around our house?

Have a wonderful weekend! I am looking forward to spending a great ski day with the kids!!

Sincerely,

Miss Schultz
