Miss Schultz's Parent Letter

Thursday, December 15, 2005

Dear Kindergarten Families,

Our Christmas around the world unit continued this week as we discussed the holiday traditions of Mexico. At the theme art center students made maraca’s to play when we sing the popular song, Feliz Navidad. They made a poinsettia together by tracing each other’s hands. They also made a book to learn some Christmas words in Spanish.

At the language center we studied Mm for Mexico. Students completed a Mm book, 2 Mm tongue twisters and a die-cut letter M. At the writing center students practiced the letter Mm, drew a picture of something that begins with Mm, wrote a sentence, practiced in sand and practiced with Wikki Stix. At the math center students made a Spanish numbers book and I introduced them to addition by playing a joining sets game.

I want to thank all my Mom volunteers! I appreciate all that you do. Next week we will be making Christmas gifts and doing other things besides centers. I will not need you until our return to school in January. If you have signed up to help at the holiday party please come to school by 1:40 on the 22nd. We will begin the festivities by about 2:00.

If you would like to donate personal care items for a family here at Onekama please bring them by next Wed. Dec. 21st. Thank-you! Also, don’t forget to bring in a wrapped book for your child to give at our classroom book exchange on the 22nd. Our holiday Christmas program is on Wed. the 21st at 7:00. Please bring your child to our classroom no later than 6:45 p.m. Mrs Smith would like your child to dress in holiday attire of your choice.

Questions to ask your child this week are the following:

  1. What sound does the letter Mm make?
  2. Can you tell me 3-5 words that begin with the letter Mm?
  3. Can you count to 7 in Spanish?
  4. Can you tell me the name of the musical instrument we made at theme art?

Enjoy the snow this weekend!!!

Sincerely,

Miss Schultz
