Miss Schultz's Parent Letter

Friday, April 13th, 2006

Dear Kindergarten Families,

We continue to discuss the season of spring. The kids have learned two new stories, Rain and Rain Talk. They have also continued to practice our spring predictable chart.

At the language center this week students made an —ain word family book. They completed a word family activity and they played a sight word game.

At the writing center the students began writing a draft of their story. Next week we will be writing in our hard cover bare books to get the stories ready for our Young Author Night next week.

At the math center students were introduced to fractions. They made a fraction book and they completed an activity on matching fractions to the correct picture. They also built things with legos and practiced measuring length and height with a tape measure.

At the theme art center our Mom volunteers read the story What Makes a Rainbow?, and discussed the ingredients for a rainbow. The kids used markers to draw their own rainbows. They also completed a spring colors book by filling in missing letters, rewriting the sentences and coloring the pictures.

Don’t forget that there will be no school tomorrow due to Good Friday and the Easter holiday.

Questions to ask your child this week are the following:

  • What makes a rainbow?
  • Can you tell me an —ain word? An —ag word?
  • How could you share a pizza with a friend?
  • What fraction would you write for a shape with 3 parts with 1 part that is colored?

Upcoming Events

No School Tomorrow — April 14th

Enjoy the Easter holiday weekend!

Sincerely,

Miss Schultz
