Miss Schultz's Parent Letter

Thursay, April 20th, 2006

Dear Kindergarten Families,

We have been working very hard this week on completing our bare books. All the kids are finished and ready to read tonight at our Young Author’s Night. Please invite any family members that would like to listen to our kids read their stories. We will begin reading at 6:30pm. I hope to see you there!!

At the language center students completed a word family activity, they cut out word puzzles and played a "tell your story" game. They also played make-a-word bingo.

At the math center students built things with the Legos, drew pictures of their buildings and measured the height and length with a tape measure. They also reviewed fractions by completing a coloring activity.

At the theme art center students learned more about birds, and made bird feeders to hang outside. They collected items that a bird would use to build a nest and they built their own nests on paper. They also wrote about what they know about birds.

We continue to follow the growth of the chicks next door in Mr. K’s classroom. We looked at the eggs on the 15th day of growing and they are almost as big as the shell. They have about 6 more days and they will begin to hatch. We have been busy drawing pictures and writing about the chicks. We can’t wait to see them!!

In May we will be taking a field trip to Moomer’s in Traverse City. Moomer’s is an ice-cream factory. They take us on a tour of the farm, show us how the cows are milked, we tour the factory and then we all get a cup of homemade ice-cream. The cost for your child will be $1.00. I will keep you posted and let you know how much it costs for chaperone’s.

Our Spring Sing concert is scheduled for Wed. May 31st at 7:00 pm

Questions to ask your child this week are the following:

  1. Can you tell me all the things you know about birds?
  2. Tell me about the chicken eggs. What do they look like? When will the chickens hatch?
  3. What is _ of 2? 4? 6? 8? 10?

Have a good weekend!

Sincerely,

Miss Schultz
