My favorite project I ever did was in 3rd grade. It was fun. We made paper macheye volcanoes with Mrs. Catanese. After it was painted we went up to her experiment table. We put a tiny bit of water, some vinegar, some baking soda and I got to pour in red dye. After that it erupted and it was foamy and bubbly. Then we had to clean up the mess that we made. …Jessa, grade 5

My Favorite Science Experiment

On the first day of school Mr. Neph asked his fifth graders to look back and recall their favorite science project. Here are a few replies.

My favorite science class was when I did volcanoes in Mrs. Catanese’s classroom three years ago. We made clay and formed it into a volcano and put it on a plate. We let it harden. Then we made sure there were no holes in it. Next I mixed vinegar and baking soda and it looked like a volcano erupting. …Emalee, grade 5
The best science class I ever had was when we had the Power Point. It was when we had to write about Planets. We also had to look up and type what we looked up. We looked up the stuff on the labtops. We had to make about 21 slides. Then we had to show it to the class. It was hard but mostly fun. …Bryce
My best science class I ever had was when we played Quiz Bowl. You would have to memorize the answers. Then 5 people would play on each team and there were two teams: the red and the yellow. You get to use buzzers like in Jeopardy. Whichever team gets to 100 points first wins. That’s the funniest thing in science. …Brandon My best science project I have ever done was when Mrs. Eldridge brought worms to science class. We had to examine the worms. It was really gross. One worm that was on my plate was trying to crawl off my plate. We used a magnifying glass to examine the worms. After we examined the worms we let them go outside. ..Miranda
My best science class was where we learned about vertebra. I learned that some animals have it and some don’t. …Amy

The best science class I ever had was with Mrs. Eldridge. We had to watch worms. We all had a piece of paper towel. Everybody got one worm. I helped pass out worms. We also had a cup of water to keep them wet. If we did not keep them wet the worms would die. Amy’s worm had a baby. We used a magnifying glass to watch them. It was a lot of fun. …Kelly, grade 5 My best science class was when we did the Power Point because we got to do it on the computer. We also typed about weather and how it works. I wrote about volcanoes and earth quakes. The farthest I got was to the title Oceans. …Parker
My favorite science project I did in science was a crystal garden. A crystal garden is a garden of crystal. It takes 10 days to finish the garden. The crystal garden grows bigger each day. The colors are green, blue and white. A crystal garden takes a long time to make. …Sierra
The best science project I did was two years ago in Ms Catanese’s class. Two years ago we went to the fish hatchery. When our class walked into the hatchery it really stunk. We saw a salmon getting cut open. Everybody got to see the inside of the salmon. It was really sick. Then we walked outside and then we saw the salmon swim around in streams. Before we left they gave us salmon eggs. When we got back to school we put the salmon eggs in a big glass tub. We had the eggs for a couple months. We watched the salmon from cycle to cycle. We saw that they turned into baby salmon. Then we went on a field trip to a river to release the salmon. At the river we watched them swim up stream. That was my favorite science project. …Derek

The best science class I ever had was when we did lights. I worked with Bryce and Austin O. We got a lot of lights. We used batteries and wire. Mr. Neph was our teacher. …Josh, grade 5

My favorite science project was making electricity. First we hooked a wire up to a battery. Then we hooked the other side to the light bulb. Then we took another wire and hooked it to the same light bulb. …Daniel
