Magoon Creek

May 17, 2006

The fourth graders went to Magoon Creek on May 17. Some things we learned about were dirt, traps, and dreamcatchers. Then we went to light house park to eat lunch and play, except it started to rain. ...Haley

As we walked through the wood we would meet people and they would tell us things. We found a guy who talked about dirt, then a trapper, then a historic person, then a tree planter, then a guy who talked about Lake Michigan and invasive species. It was good. ...Mitchel

Two older people brought llamas. The llamas had cool names. One of the Llamas dad was famous. I get to pet the while llama and feed the brown one. So then we started our hike. A man showed us layers of dirt. The first layer was black, the second layer was gray, then it started to get orangish red. Then  we got to hold it and feel it. ...Mikelle
I remember one kind of dirt was called "clay". It felt like clay too. There are more than three kinds of dirt. The next thing was about live catch. Live catch is when they trap like squirrels, chipmunks and skunks and other animals. After that we learned about dream catchers and how they are supposed to take away bad dreams. ...Nisha
AT Magoon Creek we got to see lots of fun and exciting things. The llamas were so cool and fluffy. We walked on a trail and stopped to where a man talked to us about the soil. We also stopped and a lady talked to us about dream catchers. We ended up at Lake Michigan. ...Cady
We came to a person who trapped animals that didn't belong there like skunks, raccoons, opawsoms and sometimes squirrels. A person taught us how to plant trees and how to tell which tree is which. A white pine has three needles in one bunch. ...Logan F.

When we got there we took the stuff we needed off the bus and set out. Really we had to wait a while before we could set out. When we did we only walked a little while before we came to the speaker. He talked about dirt. After that we went to hear a whole bunch of different speakers. It was an interesting trip. ...Alex B.

When we got there the helpers were putting up a fence for the llamas. They were brown and white. The white one was bigger because he was sixteen! The brown one was smaller than the white one because he was just a baby. I had two favorite speakers. One was a man who told us about dirt and different things you find in dirt. My second favorite is a man who was known as the lake effect guy. The one thing I didn't like was when the man was telling us about white pines, there were a ton of red ants! They crawled up my pant leg and then Alexa told me to shake the off but they wouldn't let go. Finally I got them off.  Magoon Creek was a fun field trip. ...Sierra
