Class Chicks
Moriah
In Mr. K’s
class this year they hatched chicks. Hobi is a kid in Mr. K’s
class. When Hobi first saw the eggs she thought they were pretty.
Hobi says “ The eggs were white and brown” The first thing Hobi had to
do with the eggs was turn them over from x to o. The reason they had to
do that is so each side of the eggs got the same amount of heat. They
had to change the eggs from x to o everyday three times a day. They
would be ready to hatch after about 21 days.
After having
the chicks in their class for 21 days they were ready to hatch. Hobi
said she got to see some of the eggs hatch. Hobi also said that after
the chicks hatched they looked tired from trying to get out of the egg.
She said after they hatched they mostly just ate drank and slept. She
said her favorite part about raising the chicks were “They were cute”.
I think Mr.
K’s class had a lot of fun raising the chicks. They thought it was a
very good idea to raise chicks.
Chicken Eggs

This year
Mr. K’s class Ian is in this class. Mr. K’s class is learning about
chick eggs.
“Ian thought
the baby chick eggs were cute the first time I saw them”. “Ian said the
colors of the eggs were white and green”. They had to look at a light
bulb everyday to look at the chick eggs. They had to put x and o on them
so they could flip them over everyday. Candling is were you look through
a tube and look at the baby chick eggs. There was a big black ball and
it was moving around inside the chick egg. Ian said it took 21 days for
most of the chick eggs to hatch.
We seen the
eggs hatch and they were tired after they hatched. They did not move
around after they hatched because they were tired from coming out of the
egg and that took a lot of strength. The chick eggs were running around
the next day after they hatched.
This was a
fun Interview. The whole class liked it. This was the best interview
ever.

said it takes 21 days to hatch a chick.
Nicholas was
lucky. He got to see a chick hatch. He said the newborn chick was wet

One of Mr.
K’s kids, Madison, was very happy that they were raising baby chick
eggs. Madison said,” The eggs were really weird.” She said that they
were weird because some of the eggs were green and some were white. The
first thing they had to do with eggs is that they had to draw X’s and
O’s on each of the eggs. They also had to flip the eggs once a day.
Madison said, “ Candling is when you put an egg under this light and
then you can see the baby chick inside.” She saw a big dot inside, but
some eggs didn’t have anything in them so they through them away. They
through them away because the chick wasn’t growing inside the egg.
Madison said
that it would take twenty-one days for eggs to hatch. She only got to
see one hatch and she said it was chirping when it got out of its shell.
Then she said that after they got out of the shell that it seemed like
they were lost and didn’t know where to go. She also said that she liked
holding them the most about hatching the eggs. They were so cute and
fluffy.
Madison
thought it was really neat hatching the chicks. She said that she wanted

inside of the egg “. Then they would stick them in the incubator. Rylan
said “the eggs were tan, white, and brown “ .
It took 21
days for the eggs to hatch. I asked rylan if he got to hold any of the
eggs when they hatched? He got to hold them. They made weird noises and
pecked at each other. They also thought animals were coming to eat them.
Rylan gave
me anof detail I need. Rylan was a good person to interview.

This year in Mr. K’s Kindergarten class they hatched baby chicks. James
is a student learning about them in Mr. K’s class.
He thought the chick eggs were starting to get bigger when he first saw
them. All of the eggs were white. James had to put the eggs in the
incubator at first. He said “you had to keep them warm by a thermometer”
every day. Candling is when they could see a black ball and see if it
was growing.
They saw a black ball when they were candling and saw it moving. It took
21 days for the eggs to hatch. James saw an egg hatch and it took kind
of a long time. When the chicks hatched they got out and started to be
sleepy. He liked them when they started to hatch. They got to hold the
eggs and chicks.

had to turn the eggs over to x and to o every day. “Candling is when you
have to put an egg on top of a light and look at it”, said Katelynn.
She saw the baby chicks moving around in the egg. It took 21 days for
the eggs to hatch. Katelynn got to see some eggs hatch but not all of
them. They were wet and cracked open when she saw them. The chicks were
just lying there because they were tired from coming out of their eggs.

New Addition in Mr. K’s Class
Amy
Mr. K’s
kindergarten class, are learning about baby chicks. One of the students
interviewed was Emilee.
Emilee thought it was cool when she saw the eggs, she wanted to take one
home. The eggs were gray, brown, and white. When they first got the eggs
they had to put x’s and o’s on the eggs. Every day they had to turn the
eggs over, they did it once a day. Like in the begging of the day the O
will be facing up then you turned so the X is facing up.
They candled every day. Candling is when you turn off the lights and put
an egg on a tube that shines a light on the egg so you san see what is
in the egg. What you see a little black dot in the middle.
I took 21 days for the eggs to hatch. Emily said, “ I did not get to
watch an egg hatch.” After the eggs hatched the baby chicks got bigger!
Emilee said,” I liked hatching eggs in my class because I got to take
one home. I feel good that we hatched the eggs in our class.”

was black.
It takes 21 days for the eggs to hatch. She didn’t see any of the eggs
come all the way out of their shell but she did see little holes through
it sometimes. The chicks grew very fast when they hatched. “I got to
take home 2 chicks. I felt really good that we were going to have them.”
That was what Emilee thought of having the chicks.

Chicks,
Chicks Everywhere!

This year Mr. K’s class learned about raising chicks. Jared is a
student in Mr. K’s class.
When Mr. Zupin brought in the chick eggs, all the students were excited.
“ I thought the chick eggs were cute.” Jared replied. Jared said the
eggs looked brownish and gray. “ The first thing,” Jared exclaimed, “
that we had to do was learn to hold the eggs.” Each day Jared had to
watch the eggs incase they started to hatch. When Jared candled the
eggs, he turned off the light, put the eggs in a black cardboard box
circle, put a light over it and looked inside. Inside was a small
circle. It may have been the eye or body of a chick. Jared was right on
the ball when he said it took 21 days for some eggs to hatch, and 22
days for others.
Now the eggs are hatched! Lucky Jared got to watch one hatch. He said
that once one rolled over, when it did his head popped out! It was still
trying to get out. When they got out, they just sat there. Some were
wet, some had fur and some were growing their fur. When the chicks
hatched they were really tired. They just sat there from being so tired.
They were tired from getting out.
Jared liked hatching eggs. His favorite part was learning how to hold
the eggs. He also liked the way the eggs looked. He thought they looked
cute. Jared enjoyed hatching eggs, and would do it again.
Mr.Ks Class’s Chicks

Ear Mr.K‘s class is learning about chicks. So Mr.Zuppin brought chick
eggs. Jared Schultz is a student in Mr.K’s class.
The first thing Jared and, his class had to do, was put X’s and O’s on
each side of the eggs. So they would now how to turn them. They also had
to talk about the chicks, so they wouldn’t jump out of their hands.
The eggs took 21 days to hatch. Some took more than 21 days and, took 22
days. The eggs were whit and, grayish. Something the class had to do
every day was watch when the eggs were getting cracked and when they
hatched. They also had to turn them every day from X’s to O’s or O’s to
X’s, Because you have to keep the eggs all warm.
Candling is when you turn the lights off and, put a chick egg on, the
top of a cardboard round box, with a light on the bottom and, a flat
surface holds the egg up, and you look in the circle and see the chick.
Jared said,” When his class candled he got to see a circle or the chicks
eyes.”
Jared, got to see the chicks hatch, when they were hatching they were so
tired, from getting out of their shell. Some were just growing fur and,
some had no fur. After the chicks hatched they just laid there. Because
they were so tired.
Jared’s favorite thing about hatching chicks was when Mr.K, tough them
how to hold the chicks. He also liked the way they looked. Jared thought
the chicks were cute.

When Mason
saw the baby chick eggs he was really happy. He liked them in
the classroom because he likes those chicks. Mason said “ The chicks
were really cute, and he was really happy. His class had to put the eggs
in the incubator to keep them warm. Most of the kids pot a x or o on the
eggs. After lunch and recess and flip them to the opposite of what they
were. Mason said, “ Candling is where you put the egg under a light so
you can see what they look like. He saw the chick move a lot when they
saw it.
He thought
the hatching took about fourteen to fifteen days to hatch. Mason
couldn’t see any any eggs hatch because they all hatched at lunch or
recess so he didn’t see any. The first thing they did was try to get
their shell off. Mason liked them in the classroom.
Mr. K’s
class had a lot of fun with the ckicks.

This year in Mr. K’s kindergarten class the students hatched baby
chicks. Nick is a student in Mr.’s class.
Nick said, “ The chicks would hatch after 21 days”. Nick thought the
chick eggs were white. The first thing Nick did with the eggs was he put

class put a light over the chick eggs. This is called candling. When
Nick candled the eggs he could see the baby chicks. Nick said he got to
see some of the eggs hatch. After the chicks hatched Nick thought the
chicks were wet and exhausted. Nick said,” We got to hold the chicks and
play with them” . Nick didn’t get to take any chicks home, but his
friend Emilee did.
It sounds like the kindergarten is having fun with the baby chicks. This
should keep going for many years.

Sophie was in Mr. K’s class. At the end of the year, her
class got to experience raising chicks.
“When I
first saw the chicks, I wondered if they would hatch. They looked just
like the eggs my mom cooked for breakfast,” Sophie said. She remembers
that the eggs were brown and white. The first thing she had to do with
the eggs was put them in the incubator to keep them warm. Every day she
had to churn, or flip over, the eggs.
Sophie got
to candle the eggs once a week. Candling is when you put the eggs on top
of a tube. Then you turn the lights off. Next, you shine a flashlight
through the bottom of the tube. You can see how big the chick is. Sophie
saw a moving black dot.
Sophie got
to see the eggs starting to hatch on the incubator. She thought she had
to wait about a month for the eggs to hatch. After the eggs hatched,
they rested. They were exhausted.
Sophie said,
“My favorite part about raising the chicks was seeing them play in the
cage together after they hatched.” It sure sounds like there has been a
lot of excitement in Mr. K’s class for the past few weeks!
