Setting our Salmon Free: From the Classroom to Bowen Creek

May 2006

On May 15th the third grade released our salmon. First we put salmon in ziplock bags. I got eight in my bag. Next we had to baby sit our salmon on the bus. When we got to the creek we counted to three and we dumped them out. After that we got to play. After a bit I slipped and fell in the water. We played lots of games. It was fun there except for falling in. ...Megan
Monday we went to release the salmon. I had five salmon in my bag. I miss my salmon. At least they were let go in a beautiful stream. Megan was reaching for a stick and she fell in the water. She got really wet. When we let the salmon go they were seven inches long. They had black spots on them. They are probably happy in the stream. I still miss them though. ...Louise
When my class went to release the salmon everybody felt kind of sad. When I let my salmon go I felt happy. Everybody had their salmon in a bag. I had five salmon in my bag. Louise had four. Most everybody had 4 salmon. After we released the salmon we played. Only one bad thing -- Megan fell in the creek. We let the salmon go in Bowen Creek. ...Meredith
When we went to release the salmon we got to play. We played with logs and stick. Megan fell in the creek. Jon's foot slipped and his foot fell in the water. We played a game where we had to try to get the stick. We put flowers and grass in the creek. We got to play tag in the big field. We got to look for the fish. We also got to baby sit the fish. We got to name them. We got to release them by ourselves. ...Alexis
