First Grade Parent Letter
May 18, 2006

Dear Parents,

Enclosed is your child’s Unit 7 Checking Progress (math test).  This unit is always enjoyed by students, because of the hands-on activities.   Students did very well on our geometry concepts: polygons, patterns, symmetry, and identifying 3-D shapes.  Throughout next week I will assess students on their math skills.  You’ll see your child’s assessment come home in his/her report card on June 2^nd.

Today was our last trip to the Onekama Public Library.  I read some stories to students and they had a chance to buddy read stories too.  If your child’s books were returned, then I’ve enclosed his/her library card.  Once your child’s books are returned, I’ll send home his/her library card home. 

Tomorrow is the last day for “The Store.”  It will close down for the summer season. 

On Wednesday we will participate in “Safety Day.”  There will be guest speakers throughout the morning at eight stations: fire trucks, EMS, brush truck, coast guard, auxiliary, bullying, nutrition and biking/skateboarding.

On Thursday we will go to Orchard Hill to deliver our zinnia plants.  We will leave at 12:30 and should return around 2:00 p.m.  Enclosed is a permission slip.  Please sign and return it.  Also this is the last day for food pantry collections.

On Friday we will have our annual Buddy Reading beach party.  We will be at the Onekama Village Park from 11:00 – 2:30.  Your child needs to bring a sack lunch, sun block, hat, jacket/sweater, towel, and beach toys in a backpack or duffel bag.  Please be sure your child’s name is on all items.  The cafeteria is selling sack lunches for $1.75.  If you are interested, then please send the money in with your child.  I hope to see you there!

There is no school on Monday due to the holiday.  See you on Tuesday.
