First Grade Parent Letter
March 3, 2005
Dear Parents,

Enclosed is your child's third magazine test. This test assessed reading comprehension, phonics/decoding, writing and language, and proofreading. The proofreading section was a new assessment. It's very similar to daily correcting errors on our morning message. The class average was 91%.

March is reading month. Our theme is Michigan. We began with a breakfast of pancakes and apple juice last Tuesday. We have many elementary activities planned throughout the month such as dress up days such as tourist day and lumberjack day. Our classroom will have its own activities such as Camp Read-A-Lot and a field trip to Pizza Hut and the Manistee Public Library.

Currently we are working on our hard-covered books for Young Author's Night. Our stories will be about a Michigan vacation. Young Author's Night will be in April.

The following dates you may want to add to your calendar:
  • March 7 – Girl Scout Meeting
  • March 10 – Tourist Day
  • March 13 – Guest Speaker – Gary Bower
  • March 16 – Pizza Hut & Manistee Public Library field trip
  • March 17 – Lumberjack Day
  • March 23 – Camp Read-a-Lot
  • March 22 – Tiger Cubs – Pack Meeting at 5:30 p.m.

Warmly,

Shantel
