First Grade Parent Letter
April 27, 2006

Dear Parents,

Today we walked to the Onekama Public Library.  Your child was able to check out three books.  They are due on Thursday, May 18th

We’ve finished our magazine test.  Your child’s results will come home in the next Thursday Folder.  Our new reading unit is called “Family Treasures.”  It includes stories called A Mother for Choco, Something for Nothing, and One of Three.  Over the next few weeks, you will see four books come home: Looking After Billy, Ned’s New Old Sled, A Moon for Ana Gracia and On Mother’s Lap.  These books will include new vocabulary words.

On Monday I will be out of the classroom.  Tara Miller will be my substitute.  On Tuesday we will celebrate Kyle Peterson’s birthday.  His real birthday is July 13th.  On Wednesday we will celebrate Jacob Fitch’s birthday.  His real birthday is on July 24th.  Also we will participate in ACES (All Children Exercising Simultaneously) at 10:00 a.m. on the football field.  Children from Leaps and Bounds to fifth grade will participate in this activity.

Throughout the week students need to bring in their four inch clay pot and saucer for our visit at Orchard Hill.  During the next several weeks we will work on decorating our clay pots and creating our personalized cards for each senior recipient.

We need canisters: coffee, Pringles, cottage cheese, infant formula, etc. to help the P.T.O.  Last year we decorated these canisters and placed them throughout the community.  They are to collect Box Tops for Education and Campbell’s soup labels.  Last year the P.T.O. was able to collect $1275.  This money is used to help support class field trips, Good Behavior Ski Day, purchase playground equipment such as basketballs, soccer balls, hula hoops, etc.  We need canisters by the week of May 22nd

During the month of May, our class is collecting non-perishable items for the local food pantry.  All of the food collected is distributed to families in our area.  Please send in your contributions throughout the month.
