Mrs. Eichberger's Parent Letter for
September 14, 2005

WHAT WE DID THIS WEEK

Language   - First graders have been reviewing the alphabet and using completing simple writing activities.  It is expected that all first graders come into the year remembering how to write a complete sentence.   Enclosed is a sample of your child’s alphabet and 1 -2 writing samples.  Drawings about their writings are also enclosed.   I have also been assessing your child’s ability to read sight words and recall letter names and sounds.  These skills will be foundations for reading success.  Enclosed in this Thursday Folder, you may find some letter or sight word cards.  Please check!

Math — We have been building our foundation for number sense by comparing numbers, counting with pennies and beans, and writing tallies.

Social Studies — We continue to study the importance of Rules in Society for the Common Good of all.  We have read stories like The Lorax, Miss Rumphius, and This Land is Your Land.  We also sang the famous Woody Guthrie song, This Land is your Land!

Field Trip Permission Slip

Next Thursday we will be going to the Elberta Farmers Market.  We will leave at 8:30 and return by 12:00. Please bring a sack lunch for your child.   If you are interested in chaperoning this field trip, please let me know on the permission slip.  The permission slip in on the reverse side of this letter.  I’m in the process of planning future field trips, however I have not confirmed these dates and times.

Snacks and Lunch Money

Mrs. Keith has suggested that it may be more convenient for you to send in your child’s lunch money for the entire week.

Also, please remember to provide a nutritious snack for your child each day.
