Mrs. Eichberger's Parent Letter for
December 8, 2005

Language

Students have been writing about their winter gear. Enclosed in this week’s Thursday folder you will see writings and drawings about their boots, hats, and mittens. You will notice growth in your child’s ability to write more legibly as well as more phonetic and correct word spellings.

I am gathering an individual library for your child.  Each student meets with me 2-3 times per week for an individual or small groups reading session.  Your child has gradually accumulated a library of books that he or she can read independently.  You will have the opportunity to hear your child read in the classroom on Thursday, Dec. 22 during our Christmas Tea.  More information regarding the Tea will be forthcoming.

Math

Students were introduced to relations symbols : < and > and =.  (Less than, More than, and Equal to) We have also been practicing place value with Base-10 blocks and exploring measurement in inches and pounds.

Social Studies

Our study of people this month is Diversity.  December is a good time to take a closer look at the many different cultures in our world.  We celebrate this time of year in so many different ways, yet the universal theme of peace, hope, and togetherness, ties us all together.  This week we discussed the celebrations of Hannukah, Christmas, St. Lucia Day, and Kwanzaa.
