Dear Kindergarten Families,

This week in Kindergarten we celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  We read books about him, talked about his vision to change the world and completed two related art projects having to do with everyone getting along no matter how we look.

At the language and writing center we studied the letter Gg.  The kids completed a letter Gg book, two Gg tongue twisters, and they practiced writing the letter Gg in their journals.  We are almost finished with our alphabet study and will be moving on to word families, writing stories for our bare books and author night as well as plenty more reading, of course!

At the math center students made domino addition problems by writing the number of dots on each side and adding them together.  After making eight domino addition problems they wrote their own addition number story.

At the theme art center we continue to progress in our world books.  This week the students made the towns they live in as well as our state, Michigan.

Please forgive me.  I know I have mentioned that I will be starting homework, but we are having a hard time being at school an entire week lately with snow days.  I will start sending out homework in Thursday folders next week.

Please remember to turn in the ski forms for our Good Behavior Ski Day.  Kelly, Tighe and Roberto still need to bring in the forms — Thank-you!  Also, please remember that there is no school for students tomorrow.

Questions to ask your child this week are the following:

  1. What sound does the letter Gg make?
  2. Can you tell me 3-5 words that begin with the letter Gg?
  3. What can you tell me about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.?
  4. What town do you live in?  What state do you live in?

Enjoy the weekend!  All this snow can be very enjoyable for all of you with winter toys!!

Sincerely,

Miss Schultz kschultz@manistee.org
