Dear Kindergarten Families,

We have been learning all about the letter Oo this week. The language and writing center helped the students to recognize the letter Oo, learn words that begin with Oo and practice writing the letter Oo. They completed their letter Oo book, learned 2 new Oo tongue twisters and practiced writing the letter Oo and a sentence in the journals.

At the math center I introduced the students to the calculator. We discussed the different keys and how they are used, we counted by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s and 10’s using the calculator, and just did some basic activities so they can begin to understand how the calculator is used. I also introduced addition number stories. I told addition number stories as they manipulated with sticks and a divider. Each student made up their own addition number story for their group to solve.

At the theme art center this week we started our Where in the World do I Live? books. The students are making these books, which help them understand the world around them. We will talk about their town, state, country and continent.

Please remember to turn in your book order by this Friday the 14th. Also turn in all the ski forms so that your child can participate in Good Behavior Ski Day. This is such a fun and exciting day for them!

Look over the attached supply list and if you can donate any of the items I would greatly appreciate it! I think that is all for now. I will continue to test for report cards so any extra practice at home will greatly benefit your child. Don’t forget that there is no school for students next Friday, Jan. 21st. Have a wonderful weekend!
