Dear Kindergarten Families,

It is so great to be back! The sun is shining and the temperature is warm. I hope you had a nice spring break week with your child. We will be very busy for the next couple months.

This week we have had a spring theme in our classroom. At the theme art center students read a poem about kites and made beautiful kites to hang from our ceiling. They also read a spring storm poem to learn about the types of weather that occurs during this time of year.

At the language and writing center students completed a spring colors book. In the book there were missing letters that students had to fill in and they colored the pictures appropriately. They also learned the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 rhyme and on Tuesday as a whole group we did an –ive word family book.

At the math center students completed an April calendar and I introduced fractions by having the kids cut and label strips of paper.

I am sending a book order home today. Please be sure to have your order in to me by next Friday, April 15th.

Also, remember that my conferences will be held next Tuesday, April 12th between 4 and 7. These are student led conferences and the report card will be given out at that time. If you would like a separate conference with me please call and I will schedule a time to meet with you. Thursday April 14th and Friday April 15th I will be in Grand Rapids for a conference. If you are unable to attend Tuesday's conference the report card will come home with your child in their Thursday folder on the 14th.

Questions to ask your child this week are the following:

  1. Can you tell me 3-5 words in the –ive word family?
  2. How are they spelled?
  3. What type of weather do we have in the spring?
  4. Can you tell me how many halves make up one whole?

Have a good weekend and enjoy the spring weather!!
