It's time for the
Great Fourth Grade Turkey Contest of 2004
Brandon B.: When I made my turkey I made mine out of wood. My dad helped me use the electric tools. I got to use the sander. When we were done cutting I painted it. Then we hot glued little leaves on it and I brought it to school. Quinn: My turkey was made out of a pumpkin. My dad helped me make my turkey. My turkey was carved but not all the way through the pumpkin. It took me and my dad two days to make my turkey. The first day we carved the pumpkin out. Then the second day we carved the turkey into the pumpkin. My turkey did not win but I thought it was good.
Jessa: It was kind of cool making a turkey because my brother’s girlfriend helped me make it. She is nice. She got the paper mache things and the hot glue things. It was really nice of her. For Thanksgiving it will be the centerpiece on my brother’s table. It’s their first Thanksgiving together. I really like my turkey!
Kaylan: All of the forth graders made turkeys on Friday. My turkey didn't win first place, second place or any place. A lot of the little girls voted for mine though. I kind of didn't like mine. It was the one with a dress.

Kelly: My turkey didn’t take long. My mom helped me hang it on a banana holder. I thought that was a good idea. I painted it. I put feathers on it. I made a little beak and feet. It looked high-quality.

Moriah: First I paper mached it. Then I glued the head on and took a marker and made eyes and glued on the feathers. My mom helped me with the paper mache.

Emily B.: My turkey was papier-mache. It has colorful tail feathers. My mom helped me make it. I don't think my turkey got very many votes. My turkey didn't have any feet. I made a base and covered it with papier-mache. I liked my turkey.

Joe: My turkey was an American flag one and it won first place. First we took a styrafoam ball and stuck it on two poles and stuck it to a gourd. We ripped materials and stuck them to the styrafoam ball. Then we made a pudy head with marbles for its eyes. That's how I made my turkey.

Elizabeth: first I got all the things I needed. Second I stuffed the stuffing in the clouse. Third I spray painted the head. Fourth I put the hat and shoes on. Last I put my turkey in the high chair. Brittany thinks mine was better than my sisters.

Daniel: I made my turkey with a wheel bering, a Iron man arm, a pit man arm, and nuts and bolts. It was all metal. We spray painted it gray so it would look like a shop turkey. That's why it won second place. If I'd vote for a turkey and I wasn't the one who made it, I would vote for that one. I would vote for it because it is made of metal.

Amy: First I got a pumpkin and I cut out legs and I glued them on the pumpkin. I cut out a head and glued it too. I put on back feathers that I made of colored papers. It looked cool. After Thanksgiving I will have to throw it away because it will rot and stink.

John: My turkey is all made out of nature. The feathers are real feathers. It’s sitting on cedar wood. We used moss for grass. The body is made of pinecones. My Mom’s friend helped us gather the things from outside. I helped with the gluing.

Emily B.: My sister and I both made turkeys. Kelly thought mine was better. Mine was in a basket and it was made of Styrofoam balls. My Mom helped me. We used glue, spray paint, grass stuff from Easter, and little feathers. We used felt and pins. It didn’t take a long time, but it looked excellent!

Brittany: My turkey looks like a duck because it has such a round body. But I liked his hat. It had a feather on it. I used stirophome balls and I used feathers I thought Elizabeth's turkey was prettier and cuter than mine. Annie: I made my turkey out of a gourd. I used my doll clothes. I used yarn for hair. I hot glued mine. I did not burn myself. Making my turkey was fun. My brother wished he made one. The eyes are tiny and so is its beak. That's how I made my turkey.

Happy Thanksgiving from the Onekama Fourth Grade!
