Onekama's Fourth Graders Spent the Day
Learning about Hartwick Pines

May 2005

Two weeks ago we went to Hartwick Pines on a Friday. It was a long drive. When we got there some men that worked there said to get in a circle so we did. Then they had a large ball of string. They handed the string to someone in the circle. Then the person said an animal. Then they handed it to another person and that person said an animal. Then it ws handed to another person then they said an animal that could eat or could be eaten by the animal that the first person said. They explained that if anything hppened to one animal that was bad and it could have hurt the rest. It was a cool thing to do and fun. ...Curtis
Two weeks ago we went to Hartwick Pines When we first got there, we did a skins and skulls activity. To play the game they blind folded us. Then they gave us an animal skin, skull or body part. You had to guess what kind of animal it was. After that we went outside to see the forest. My favorite part of the three forsts was the Old Growth, and the Monarch. After we had a tour of the forest we learned how a shanty boy lived. My favorite part of the trip was the gift shop. ...Miranda
We went to the Hartwick Pines on Friday, May 13, 2005. I thought it was fun. We did a skins, parts, and skulls game. That was fun too. It rained as soon as we left the building. Then we learned about things in the woods. We came back wet and cold and learned more about people who lived a long time ago and what they did. We got to come back to th building and look around some more and go in the gift shop. I thought it was fun. I want to go again. ...Sarah

We had to be quiet. Then we came back to the lobby and went in the gift shop. We stopped at MacDonalds on the way home. All of us had a good time. ..Bryce
