Holiday Happenings

From Mr. M’s class

Christmas Party

Our Christmas party will be Wednesday, December 22. The party will start at around 2:00. If anyone has the time to coordinate the party food and activities please call me. I need some ideas for activities so the students will be able to attend at least 3 centers during the party as well as someone to organize the party treats.

For Christmas we ask the students to give each other the gift of reading. During our holiday party, the students participate in a book exchange. If you would like your child to participate in the gift exchange, please send a wrapped book (less than $4.00) in that would be appropriate for a girl or a boy.

Reading

The children have many new reading skills that they have been practicing. When reading with your child at night, please try to incorporate some of these skills in your discussions:

  • -plot (problem, events, solution)
  • -summary
  • -cause and effect
  • -character traits (personality)
  • -real/fantasy

We have begun guided reading also. I will be meeting with your child at least 3 times per week in a small group setting. We will be practicing decoding skills as well as building comprehension.

Buddy Reading

Every other Friday or Thursday the students have been buddy reading with other students in the elementary. A schedule will be coming soon.

Homework

It is important that your child complete his/her homework each night. If for some reason the homework does not get finished, please do not sign the sheet. If there is a family function/activity that keeps homework from getting done, please just write a short note explaining on the homework sheet, I will understand. Also, please help to remind your child that the homework sheet must be signed and returned each day.
