Newsletter Reading The students are still meeting in guided reading groups two to three times per week (except when testing). They have made great progress and are developing into very fluent readers! When listening to your child read each night, please encourage them to "read the punctuation." They do a great job when reminded. Also, when listening to your child read, please encourage them to try a reading strategy before they ask for help with an unknown word. You may be surprised at how well they do! Again, asking questions about the plot, summary, characters, etc. is a great way to help improve their comprehension. Your child may be moving from guided reading into literacy centers very soon. Once a child has demonstrated a certain level of fluency in his/her reading, I move him/her into literature circles. The students generate discussions based upon their reading. This should be an exciting event. When your child does move into literature circles, he/she will be responsible for completing the reading at home. Please encourage your child to keep up with his/her reading so he/she does not miss out on any of the fun activities. In the next few weeks we will be finishing the reading for the Michigan Reading Associations Readers Choice Awards for favorite childrens book. The children will hear ten books read to them and participate in the voting process. In March we will find out the statewide winner. Good Behavior Ski Day In February we will be having our "Good Behavior Ski Day". There will be information going home shortly regarding sign-up and participation. If you have any questions or concerns about the information you get, please dont hesitate to call. Buddy Reading Schedule Every other Friday or Thursday the students have been buddy reading with other students in the elementary. Our schedule for the rest of the winter will be as follows:
Report Cards The end of the marking period is coming soon. We will be sending your childs report card home. We will be sending them out in the Thursday folders on the Thursday after the marking period ends (January 27). |
