May 2005
Yesterday we went to Ludington State Park. We did a pond study. I caught a dragon fly nymph, a strider, and an algae. We used a net, a bucket, and a magnifying glass. We also went on a hike. We saw fish, a water fall, a lake, and a turtle. I went up a really big hill. I got to stick my feet in the water. ...Katie
Our class saw two big fish in the water and the class saw them in the water. We saw the falls and Hailey saw two rainbow. We saw baby fish by the rocks. We saw turtles on the log and they are green. Hailey and I, Taylor and Meredith went to the sand dunes and we ran down there. We had to come back up and we were tired on the bus. ...Tawny
Yesterday we had a pond study. We found crayfish, leaches, striders, dragon fly nymph. A crayfish is unusual to catch. Leaches are unusual to catch too. We didn't catch any fish. I caught a slimy thing on a stick. I caught a bug that looked like a bee. A big bug ate all the little ones. The tadpoles did not get eaten. There was a river and a lake. ...Devin
Yesterday the 2nd graders went on a trip to the Ludington State park to do our pond study. At the pond we took a net and got some wet sand in it and some sea week too. We looked for leaches, crayfish, dragon fly nymphs, and other pond creatures. After we found a pond creature we put it in a plastic container which had a little bit of water. After that we put all of the containers in a row and we got to see all the pond creatures that everyone caught! Then we put all of the creatures back into the pond. Then we went to another park to eat our lunches but of course we had to wash our hands. So we did that in the bathrooms which were there. Then after everyone was done with their lunches we went on a hike on that hike we saw a water fall, a family of turtles, a turtle and stairs. We didn't know where the stairs led to so we went up the stairs. And at the top there was a dune. Then when everyone made it we ran down the dunes. It was so fun. But you know the whost part was getting back up the dune. Everyone ran down the dune so almost everyone called help, but then it was time to go to the bus. We took a long time to get there that the bus driver was about going to leave without us but thankfully we got there in time. Then we went back to school and went on the bus. ...by Kayla Yesterday the 2nd graders went to Ludington State Park. When we got there it was raining so we went to the museum there. We watched two movies. One move was about the Great Lakes and the other movie was about different kinds of turtles. When it stopped raining we went outside with Kris. She gave each of our groups a long net, a plastic bucket, a magnifying glass, and a bug box. Then we walked on a trail to the pond. I was in Mrs. Barnard's group. When we got to the pond each group put water in the buckets. I was the 2nd in my group to put the net in the water. You have to put the net on the bottom of the pond and scrape it to get sand and weeds. We found worms, striders, snail shells, dragon fly nymphs, a snail in its shell and lots of other stuff. When we were done we got to see what other groups caught. One caught a crayfish. Then we got to put all the things back in the pond. Then we went to the park and ate lunch then we went on a hike in the woods and we went up a steep hill and went back to the beach. We got to put our feed in the water. Then we got on the bus and went back to school. ..by Megan, May 26, 2005
