Dear Parents,

Enclosed is your child’s “Unit 1 Checking Progress.” Last Thursday students took a math test. The content covered was tally marks, more than, larger number and number writing. Most students had little trouble. If your child has some area(s) of difficulty, then s/he worked with me one-on-one to correct any incorrect answers. We have begun a new mathematics unit called “Everyday Uses of Numbers.” Students will learn about three specific uses of numbers in real-world contexts: the use of numbers in telephone numbers, in telling time, and in counting money. Your child will learn how to interpret the various parts of a telephone number (the area code, the prefix, and the last four digits), how to tell time on the hour, and how to count collections of nickels and pennies.
Please practice these skills at home.

On Tuesday we will walk to the Onekama Fire Department. We will focus on two lessons. The first is fire safety. October is fire safety month. The second is career awareness. Students will learn about a fire fighters job. If your schedule permits, please feel free to join us.

If you have not sent in a new audiocassette tape with your child, then please do so soon. These tapes will be used to record your child reading throughout the year. You will be able to listen to your child’s tape at student-led conference in the spring and can keep them at the end of the school year.

Book orders are due tomorrow. Please make check to Scholastic. No cash please!!
