December 2, 2004
Dear Parents,

We’ve began a new reading unit called "Get The Giggles." It includes stories called On Top Of Spaghetti, The Foot Book, and The Lady With The Alligator Purse. Also poems by Shel Silverstein and Jack Prelutsky. Over the next few weeks, you will see four books come home: On Top Of Spaghetti, Where Is My Baby?, Hank and Lin, and Fox and Chick. These books will include new vocabulary words. Enclosed is a copy of those words.

Yesterday your child took Unit 3 Checking Progress (math test). It assessed time, odd numbers, money including fewest coins, frames and arrows, addition and subtraction. Your child’s test will come home in next week’s Thursday Folder. Next week we will begin a new mathematics unit is called "Measurement and Basic Facts." It focuses on length measurement. Lesson activities will provide various opportunities for students to measure with nonstandard units, such as hand spans and paces, as well as with standard measurement, such as feet and inches, using a ruler and tape measure.

Christmas is just around the corner. You may want to add a few items to your shopping list: personal items, party supplies, clothing, and a book for our Christmas book exchange.

Once again Onekama PTO along with Onekama Lions Club and National City Bank has organized "The Giving Tree" to help families in our school. These families would like to remain anonymous; as I am sure you can understand. The trees located in the atrium. Each tree has many tags on it. Some tags have shirts, coats, boots, shoes, food (peanut butter, mac & cheese, etc), and personal items (shampoo, soap, etc). If you would like to help, then please come to school and choose a tag. Please check in with the office with your tag(s) so they can keep track of them. All items need to be wrapped and turned into the elementary office by Wednesday, December 22nd. The office will put a nametag on it at that time.

I would like our class to support the Giving Tree Project. We will collect personal items. I’ll purchase a large plastic tote. Students need to bring in one personal item such as shampoo, hand soap, bar soap, body soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, lotion, dish soap, toilet paper, laundry soap, etc. Please send in all items by Wednesday, December 22nd.

Our Christmas party is on Wednesday, December 22nd at 12:20 — 3:00 p.m. Sanna Johnson, Rick Kubiskey, Christine LeSarge, Kelly Maser and Lisa Morley are helpers. Connie Bowman, Sanna Johnson, Christine LeSarge, and Kelly Maser will provide treats. Would someone like to coordinate the food brought so we don’t end up with duplicated treats? Leslie Acton will provide the drinks. Heidi Wisniski will provide cups and plates. Each child is responsible for bringing a new wrapped book with a nametag for the Christmas book exchange. The book should not cost more than $3.00.

For our Christmas party art centers I am still in need of a few items: 3 large jars of cinnamon, 3 large jars of apple sauce, 17 round red or green plastic shower-curtain rings, and 17 — 2 _" self-sticking felt pieces.

Our annual Christmas program will be held on Wednesday, December 15th at 7:00 p.m. in the gymnasium. Your child needs to arrive to school at 6:45 p.m. in the classroom dressed in the Christmas best. Girls are invited to wear dresses and boys are invited to wear dress shirts and dress pants.
