The fifth graders are helping the first graders write their books.

Young Authors' Night will be March 22 from 6:30-7:30. All the students in Young Fives to 5th Grade create their own storybook. They start by making a story map of their ideas thinking about the characters, setting, problem, events, and solution.

From there they make a first draft of their story.

Together the teachers and students edit their stories. Also they decide how much writing goes on each page and where pictures will be added

When they are ready, the students are given a BARE book to write/illustrate their story. This process can take from two weeks to two months depending on classroom time and grade level.

When the children are completed they share their books with others in their class. At Young Authors' Night students are able to read the books to a larger audience of children and parents.

In the Media Center, four different reading areas are set up with a variety of students from different grade levels. The evening lasts about one hour. We usually have 100+ people attending this yearly event.
