Student Work

You will begin to see work brought home from your child. Work goes home on Thursdays, however it's important to check your child's backpack everyday. Most children will have left Kindergarten able to construct a sentence beginning with an uppercase letter and ending with a period. It is normal for a child to forget if they have not written during the summer. Children identify how many words in the sentence and then attempt to spell each word. After the child has written their sentence, I will model it for them. In some cases, the child will dictate the sentence to me and I will model the entire process for them. As the year progresses you will notice the growth in your child's writing. Most math work is done in our math journal or in class.

Language

We have been reviewing letter sounds and writing our letters. We have also read books that pertained to the harvest, and the change of season. On Tuesday we enjoyed a "Fairy Tea Party" to celebrate the last day of summer. We toasted with pink lemonade and then ate fresh summer fruit - peaches and pears. Students wrote a sentence and drew a picture of about the tea party. We also made a "flip book" about the four seasons.

Student Interviews

Starting next week, each student will be interviewed. Questions like, What is your favorite food, favorite music, favorite animal, etc. will be asked. Following the interview, we will write a "newspaper" article about that student following their interview. The article will be displayed in the classroom. There will be one child interviewed per week.

Show and Tell

Show and tell will be each Friday during snack. I ask that students bring in something that they found in nature or something that they made.

Great Day

We had a great time at the Farmers Market and Bird Observation deck in Elberta today. It was a beautiful sunny day and children enjoyed themselves very much. Thank you to all parents who came along to help!

Next Wednesday we will be going to the Drake School - a one room school house in Northern Benzie County.

Substitute Tomorrow

I will be participating in a seminar on sensory learning at the Manistee ISD. There will be a substitute in teaching on Friday, September 24.
