Language

I have placed your child in their guided reading groups. Next week, I will assess all children for their developmental reading level. The results will be discussed at our upcoming parent teacher conferences.

Students were introduced to contractions I’ll (I will) and I’m (I am) through the story the Chick and the Ducking. We wrote about what we want to be when I grow up. The following are some excerpts from what we wrote about.

"I’m going to be a race car driver." Randy

"I’m going to be an artist. I’ll paint." Tiffany

"I’m going to be a singer. I’ll sing to people and I’ll sing to children." Kylie

"I’m going to be a teacher and I’ll help children." Jessica

"I’ll be a clock maker. I’ll help people tell time. " Emma

"I’m going to be in the army. " I’ll help people that do not have houses." Kyler

"I’m going to be a ballet teacher. I’ll teach people how to dance." Lacee

Math

This past week the students were introduced to the analog clock. We practiced telling times to the hour and began to develop a sense of the duration of a minute. Ask your child what time it is when they go to be, eat dinner, get ready for school, etc…

The Drake School Halloween Party

On Saturday, October 23 from 4-6 PM, there will be a marshmallow roast and spooky story hour at the Drake School. We visited this school back in September. The DrakeSchool is located in Northern Benzie County. Take M-22 north to Fowler Rd. Turn right on Fowler and continue to stop sign. Go straight through Stop sign, and continue for 2 miles. The Drake School is on the corner of Fowler and County Rd.677.

Halloween Celebration

Our Halloween Celebration will take place Friday, October 29 at 1:00 PM. If you would like to If you would like to contribute food and decorations for our Halloween party, please refer to the back of this newsletter.

Our school policy states that pretend weapons of any kind are to be left at home.

First Grade Halloween Ball 2004

We have 16 children in our class. All parents are invited to the party and assist with food distribution and games. Younger siblings are also invited. If you’d like to contribute to the party, please let us know.

We try to have food that is seasonal and local for our Halloween Ball. The following is requested for our buffet.

  • Apple Cider
  • Apple Pie
  • Sliced Apples with Carmel Dip
  • Applesauce
  • Pear Pie
  • Pumpkin Pie
  • Toasted Pumpkin Seeds
  • Popcorn in small brown paper bags
  • Wild Grapes
  • Monster Cookies
  • Chocolate

The following decorations and miscellaneous items are requested for our party. They should be brought in by Thursday, Oct. 28.

Small pumpkins (The farm markets along M-22 have pumpkins. We will be decorating them the morning of our party.) Small candy prizes for a Halloween Scavenger Hunt.
