Our story of the week was "When this box is full."A young girl turns an empty box into a treasure box by adding a new object for every month. January, a snowman’s scarf; in July a seashell; etc…We wrote about things that we like to collect. We also wrote about things we like to do in the month of October. I noticed a big difference in the overall quality of work that the students submitted. BRAVO!

To finish the week we will be creating a season box tomorrow afternoon. Each child will need a shoebox or a large jewelry box. Any box will do, as long as your child can carry it on their own.

Reading

Classroom books are now being sent home with your child. Your child will be able to read these books with full support or partial support from you. When you are finished with the books, please return them for new books. The plastic bags are to protect the books so others can use them. If any family would like to donate a box of 1 gallon plastic storage bags, it would most appreciated.

Family Project

We will be making a leaf alphabet book next Friday. In order to complete our project, we will need pressed leaves. Please collect leaves, avoiding ones with any mold or rot. Lay leaves flat between phone-book pages or layers of newspaper, then weight them with something heavy. Allow one week to fully flatten and dry. Please bring in leaves on Friday, September 22.

Math

We created our own number lines and number grids this week. This was your child’s first attempt at creating their own number lines and grids this year. This activity will be repeated and elaborated on throughout the year.
