Mrs. Eichberger's First Grade News Thursday, February 3, 2005
Language

This week we read stories that emphasized cause and effect relationships. The Itsy Bitsy Spider was a great story for such a concept.

We sang the song, created paper spiders that included spider facts, and created "color causes" by mixing primary colors.

Spelling Tests Begin Next Week!

Starting on each Monday of the week, your child will be bringing home a list of spelling words. These words should be practiced nightly at home. The tests will be given on Friday. Some suggestions for spelling practice are

  • Traditional Spelling Tests — parent reads word aloud, and child spells it.
  • Painting the word
  • Forming the word in clay, pasta, snow, etc… BE CREATIVE!!!
  • Making the word using paper letter cutouts or magnetic letters

Winter Clothing Reminder

We have had many students forget their winter clothing essentials (hats, mittens, snow pants). Please make sure your child has these items at school during the winter season.

Quilt Unit

If your child has not brought in their fabric scrap, please do so by Monday, February 7. The piece of fabric should have a memory or some sort of family history behind it. We will be incorporating writing into this project, so your child should be able to describe the special meaning behind the piece of fabric.

Math Money and Field Trip Fundraiser

Renee Tondu gave a great presentation to our class about savings accounts and the importance of saving our money. As you may remember we are saving our math money for our year end field trip to the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park. A "First Grade Craft and White Elephant Sale" will also be held during the month of April. More information regarding the fundraiser will be made available following Spring Break

Good Behavior Ski Day

Our day at Crystal Mountain is Tuesday, February 8. We will be skiing all day. Your child must bring a sack lunch for this event. If your child participates in our free and reduced lunch program, they will need to get a sack lunch from our cafeteria on Tuesday morning.
