At the Manistee County Historical Museum we learned about lumberjacks and old places that were at Manistee. Back then there was a lot of lumberjacks. The people who went into the woods did not get very good pay. They did not have running water then. So the lumberjacks could not shower. So when the lumberjacks went to the theaters the lumberjacks had to sit alone on wooden benches with the rest of the lumberjacks because they did not have the money and they smelled bad. …Curtis

Note: The fourth grade student typed these reports. They were taken, as typed, and placed on this web page.

We went to the Manistee County Historical Museum. We learned about how builders called lumberjacks made small cabins to live in. During the winter the lumberjacks would cut down the trees and pulled them. The lumberjacks and horses were the only ones who carried the logs. They would carry them to a boat that took them to Chicago and sometimes Wisconson. The lumberjacks had cooks. They had no radio or telivision. So for fun the lumberjacks would fiddle with a knife or they would carve ornaments and put them on their tree. They also would play an insterment called a sweetpatato or a different small insterment So that’s about the lumberjacks we learned about. …Jessa
