Dear Kindergarten Families,

We have continued our apple unit this week by celebrating Johnny Appleseed’s birthday. We have also talked about trees and their different parts as well as uses. Our letter focus has been "Tt" so be sure your child brings something that begins with "Tt" for show-and-tell tomorrow.

Our centers this week have been journal writing to become experts at writing the letter "Tt," "Tt" books, writing numbers 3 and 4, and sequencing the growth of an apple tree. We also read a story about the four seasons and created a poster to illustrate the way an apple tree looks during each season.

A couple of you have mentioned that you would like a class list of names and phone numbers so I have included that for you this week. Hopefully this will be helpful when Valentine’s Day arrives and also to allow the kids a chance to see each other outside of the classroom if they wish.

I have a couple reminders for you this week. The first is to bring in a shirt your child can wear for art if you haven’t already. The children will be doing a variety of activities with Ms. Woolman and I would hate for anything to get ruined. The second reminder is to make sure your child has an afternoon snack. I have been getting some extra snacks, but those only go so far.

Please continue to turn in your picture package order forms. Our picture day is Tuesday, October 7th.

Questions to ask your child this week are the following:

  1. Can you tell me 3-5 words that begin with the letter "Tt?"
  2. Can you write the numbers 3 and 4?
  3. Can you count backwards from the number 10?
  4. Can you tell me the stages in the growth of an apple tree?
  5. Can you describe how an apple tree looks in the winter? spring? summer? fall?
  6. Can you name the different parts of a tree?

May all of you have a nice, relaxing weekend. Fall is here! Enjoy the changing colors!

Sincerely,

Miss Schultz
