Dear Kindergarten Families,

Our theme this week has focused on leaves and we have been continuing with a variety of fall related activities. Our centers included learning about the pigment in leaves and why they change color, an introduction to measurement and finding something in the room as long as our foot, practicing and becoming experts at writing the numbers nine and ten, "Ll" books and journals. I have added to the journal center by implementing a story writing activity. The children are given five pictures of things that begin with the letter of the week (Ll) and they are to come up with a story that uses at least three of the objects. They color the pictures they want to use, cut and glue them to their storyboard page and tell an adult their story as they write it down. They have been very excited about being able to write stories.

Next week is Red Ribbon Week which helps to promote being drug free. There will be a variety of activities that the children and I will be participating in along with the upper elementary grades. There are also special things to do on each day of this week.

Red Ribbon Week daily happenings Oct. 20-24

  • Monday — Be a drug free Portager and show school pride — wear blue & gold.
  • Tuesday — Dress like what you want to be when you grow up.
  • Wednesday — Donate 25 cents and be able to wear a cool hat.
  • Thursday — Pajama day!
  • Friday — Wear red

Reminders: Halloween is just around the corner and I just wanted you to be reminded of school rules when it comes to costumes. Please leave any pretend weapons at home.

Also, conferences are set for November 18th. The children will be dismissed at 12:30 and individual meeting times will be set between the hours of 3:00 and 8:00 that day. If this will not work for you please let me know and we can schedule it at a time that will work.

Have a great weekend and give your kids a big bear hug. They deserve it! They are all doing so well. I am very proud of all of them.

Sincerely,

Miss Schultz
