Dear Kindergarten Families,

Our theme this week has been animal babies (science) and bears. Our centers have consisted of Bb books and a letter sound and recognition game, journal and story writing, graphing Gummi Bears, sequencing the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and learning about the names for animal babies.

We have been talking about the three different types of bears that reside in Alaska: the polar bear, grizzly bear and black bear. We have talked about what parts of the area they live in as well as what they prefer to eat. We made a poster about the main facts that we learned about bears in general.

I have decided to hold off on homework folders until after conferences. I think that will be a better time to introduce you and your child to such an important routine. While on the topic of conferences, please remember to call Mrs. Bergren in the office to schedule a time to talk with me about your child on Tuesday November 18th between the hours of 3 and 8. If you are unable to come in at this time please let me know and we can set up an alternate time.

I have included a packet of book orders. Please return your order and money to school with your child by Friday, November 21st.

Questions to ask your child this week are the following:
  1. Can you tell me 3-5 things that begin with Bb?
  2. We have talked about the names for the babies of the following animals — kangaroo (joey), rabbit (fawn), giraffe (calf), cow (calf), pig (piglet), zebra(foal), dolphin (calf), skunk (kit), tiger (cub), sea otter (pup), monkey (infant), swan (cygnets), bear (cub). See if your child can tell you any of the baby names.
  3. Can you count by 2’s to 20? to 30?
  4. Can you tell me the names of the three types of bears that live in Alaska? What part of Alaska do they live in? Why?
  5. Can you tell me three important facts about bears?
  • I have a correction to make regarding the list of phone numbers that you received. Dr. and Mrs. Sherry Joanette and Zac can be reached at 889-0257. That’s all for now! Have a wonderful weekend!!
  • Sincerely,

    Miss Schultz
