Dear Kindergarten Families,

This week our literacy centers consisted of the following activities. At the language center students completed the _ ane word family book, wrote a sentence using one of the recently studied word family words and read the Little Bo-Peep Rhyme to learn some new rhyming words. At the writing center students wrote in their May journals and they had a conference with me to talk about details and fix things so their writing was correct. Students also continued working on stories they started last week. The math center had houses with numbers inside. The task of the students was to find addition equations that added up to the number in each house. They practiced counting on with a dice game and they also wrote their numbers by 2’s and by 5’s. We made family trees at the art center and also discussed chronological order in families and drew our families from tallest to shortest.

Tomorrow Mrs. Morley will be visiting again and we will observe and discuss the effects of yeast and make bread. We will be making a few different flavors of butter to try on our bread.

There are a couple of upcoming events that I have mentioned previously. First of all we will be having a Spring Sing/Academic Art Show on May 26th at 7:00 pm. Mrs. Smith requests that the children wear jeans and white shirts. If they have a bandana they may also wear that. Our fieldtrip to the Amber Elk Ranch will be June 7th. We will be gone for the majority of the day. Thank-you to those of you who plan to come along! It will be wonderful to spend the day together. Our field day is scheduled for June 8th. Anyone is welcome to cheer us on during that fun day as well. The last day for students is June 10th.

Questions to ask your child this week are the following:

  1. Have them read you the Little Bo Peep rhyme and the new pull-through words that I gave them to take home.
  2. Many students need practice counting by 2’s and 5’s. Practice! Practice!
  3. Ask them to tell you some things they learned about different jobs in our community, the tools needed to do those jobs and their own personal skills. (from S.E.E.D. Sowing Early Employment Dreams handbook)

That is all for now. Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Miss Schultz
