Miss Schultz' Parent Letter

Dear Kindergarten Families,

What a snowy week we have had!  Perfect for our winter and Arctic animals theme.  Our theme centers this week have been writing a winter pattern book and learning about Emperor Penguins.  Our language center focused on the letter Ii and we practiced writing the letter Ii in our journals.  We also continue to work on our pattern books at the writing center.  Many students are working on their second book at this time.  The task at the math center this week has been number writing to at least 50 with the ultimate goal of 100.  Many students were able to write their numbers to 100.  Kudos to those students!

This week in our world books we have worked on our home page to practice writing our address.  We have also done the city page.  I have been working on some informal testing in order to mark report cards.  The report cards will be sent home in Thursday folders on January 29th.

Please be aware of the homework folders that
came home today.  My homework expectations are noted on the inside of the folder.  Please be sure your child has turned in their homework by Monday, January 19th.  If you have any questions about homework feel free to call me at school (889-9678 x435) or e-mail me (kschultz@manistee.org).  Also make note of the school schedule for next week.  On Wednesday and Thursday the kids will be dismissed at 1:40.  There is no school on Friday.

Questions to ask your child this week are the following:

  1. Can you tell me 3-5 words that begin with Ii?

  2. Can you tell me 3 things that you learned about Emperor Penguins?

  3. How much is a penny worth?  How much is a nickel worth?  How much is a dime worth?  How much is a quarter worth?

That is all from me!  Enjoy the snow this weekend!!  Take care.

Sincerely,

Miss Schultz
