Dear Kindergarten Families,

This week we have been focusing on the letter Ww as we begin to talk about winter and make winter crafts.  We have also kicked off our Christmas around the world unit by talking about what China does to celebrate the holidays.  This unit will continue throughout the next couple weeks as the children are introduced to a variety of different Christmas traditions.

Our centers this week have consisted of Ww books and alphabet games, journal writing, making December calendars, discussing and exploring new Science vocabulary and using the pan balance to compare the weight of different objects as well as introducing the Christmas traditions of China and making paper chains to decorate the tree in our library.

I have begun to introduce a few new concepts.  We have started learning to tell time, each morning the children answer a question and we graph their response and next week I plan to start an estimation station.  All of these activities will be a part of the morning routine.

On the last day of school before Christmas break I would like to do a book exchange.  Please purchase a new children’s book, wrap it and simply write that the book is from your child.  Please do not spend more than $5.00.  Mark your calendars for the elementary Christmas concert on Tuesday, December 16th at 7:00pm.

Questions to ask your child this week are the following:

1)     Can you tell me 3-5 words that begin with the letter Ww?

2)     How are Christmas trees decorated in China?

3)     Can you show me where China is on a map?

4)     What do the Chinese children do to prepare for Santa?

I have one reminder regarding snacks. Please make sure you are providing an afternoon snack for your child.  A different child provides the morning snack each day (snack schedule), but in the afternoon, children need their own snack from home.  Thank-you!  Have a wonderful weekend!  I sure wish it would snow already!!

Sincerely,

Miss Schultz
