Dear Kindergarten Families,

Welcome to spring!  We have just started a new theme, which focuses on the spring season.  We will be discovering all the wonderful things spring has to offer.  Our theme literacy center this week involved making a kite and learning a poem about kites as well as making a spring weather mobile.  The language tasks this week were to make an –ag word family book and also to complete a cut and paste activity having to do with changing beginning sounds.  At the math center students made April calendars and practiced counting by 2’s 5’s and 10’s using the hundred chart.  We started our April journals by writing about the best thing we did during Spring Break.  We are also trying to complete our stories so they can be written in our “bare” books for the Author’s night.

Homework resumes this week with two Easter activities as well as a new book to read.  Please be sure finished homework is brought back on Monday.

Important reminders and upcoming events:

-Conferences are Tuesday, April 13 from 6:30 to 9:00.  This will be an open house format.  There are no scheduled times.  The kids will be sharing the latest work they have completed and report cards will be handed out at that time.

-Kindergarten has been asked to collect food for the food pantry for the month of April.  Please bring in any non-perishable food items that you are able to donate.

-The paper feet and candle luminaries for our Relay for Life fundraiser are due.  Please bring in any donations you have received from the information that went out before Spring Break.  We will be walking in the gym as part of this fundraiser next Friday after lunch.

-I still need plastic containers for the wind chime project.  Things like cottage cheese or butter containers are the perfect size.

-I have included a book order!  This will be the last book order of the year.  Please turn in your order by next week Friday.

          Enjoy the extended weekend!

Sincerely,

Miss Schultz
