Thursday, April 22, 2004 Dear Kindergarten
Families, Our
literacy centers this week consisted of the following tasks.
At the language center students completed the –ain word family
book and read words to figure out rhymes with a Mother Hubbard rhyme
activity. At the writing
center students worked towards completing their “bare” books with an
about the author page and their best handwriting and illustrations
throughout the final copy of their book.
At the math center students worked on equation cards again with
some subtraction cards added to the mix, they graphed dice throws and
made a subtraction storybook page for a class book.
I am beginning to introduce and talk about helpers in our
community as well as a variety of careers as part of our Kindergarten
requirements. At the theme center students made a community helpers book
and then wrote in their journal about how two particular helpers from
the community assist us. At
the Science center we played a game to find out what the Earth has more
of-land or water and we discussed landforms and made a book of three
different types of landforms on Earth. Homework
has been sent home today, but I have made some changes.
I am no longer sending the books home.
I plan to begin some guided reading groups and we will be doing
our core reading and strategy learning during that time.
I am still missing a couple books.
If you have any of the books that went home in homework folders
please return them to me ASAP. Thanks!

Please remember that Kindergarten is in charge of gathering food
for the food pantry this month. Next
week is the last week to donate. Mrs.
Veryser (young 5’s teacher) and I are putting together a fieldtrip
to the Amber Elk Ranch. On
this fieldtrip children will take wagon rides through 3 different elk
fields and then have the opportunity to pet various animals.
The PTO has offered to pay for all the children to attend this
fieldtrip. If you would
like to be a chaperone your cost is $7.00. We will be leaving school on June 7th at about
9:00 and return between 1 and 2.
The children will need a sack lunch that day.
As the date approaches I will provide exact details, but feel
free to let me know now of you are interested in chaperoning. Questions
to ask your child this week are the following: 1)
Can you tell me three landforms on Earth? 2)
Can you tell me 2-3 helpers in our community and how they help
us? Enjoy
the weekend!
Sincerely, Miss Schultz |
