Judy Cunningham, an Americorps volunteer, came to tell us about the water table.

She talked about ground water and wells. Also she talked about how w get our water and where waste goes. She also talked about changing our wells and not to use too much fertilizer for our grass. This experience was really cool. ...Lauren

Today we had a volunteer come in from Americorps. She taught us about groundwater. She also taught us about pollution. She used a tank so we would understand better.
I will tell you about types of pollution. It is a little known fact but even septic tanks can cause polution. So can wells. Just not checking your septic system can cause pollution. Bet you did not know that.
People pollute water every day. Factories pollute water. Airports do it. Every day we pollute water. However there is something you can do. Try not to pollute water. Fresh water is rare around the world. ...Jake

Today Miss Cunningham came here and taught us about water tables. I learned that if we left our sewage sit in the septic tank for a long time and didn't get it dumped, it could leak into the aquifers. If this happened everyone's water around us would be polluted. If our water is polluted we could get very sick. Another thing that could hurt the water table is car batteries or other things that sit out for too long. ...Chris

Today a guest speaker came in from Americorps. She talked to us about keeping the ground water safe. Miss Cunningham brought in a model of a ground water system. She showed us how pollution travels and how you need to keep you ceptic tank clen. She also talked about types of pollutions like fertilizers and how deep your well should be so it doesn't get polluted. Miss Cunningham was a very educated speaker. I learned a lot from her that is helpful. ..Nolan

Today a lady came in and brought a big water table model with wells and a septick tank. I get my water from a private well and our waste goes in a septick tank. ...Ryan

Groundwater comes from underground, but there is only around 1% ground water. The rest is in lakes, streams, ocean and glaciers. If ground water gets contaminated we can't drink the water. ...Tim

My well goes down 50 feet. There's 400 feet of sand and gravel. We tested our water to see if it was safe. It was. She also asked us where are wastes go. My waste goes to my septik tank. ...Ashley

Today I learned that the liquids from our septic tank could get into our drinking well. I get my water from a private well. She said that we should have our septic tanks cleaned every 3-5 years. If we keep wells and lakes clean we can reduce the amount of disease. ...Cam

Judy Cunningham came in today to talk about groundwater and how it can be polluted. Some ways it can be polluted are body wastes, pesticides, fertilizers and landfills. Water tables show how water flows. ...Duane

Mrs. Cunningham asked us to figure out where our water comes from and where do our wastes go. She told us that a long time ago Michigan was underwater. Then glaciers formed and picked up sand, soil, and gravel. ...Tommy

Today Judy Cunningham came in to talk about groundwater. Our waste goes in to the ground and the sand cleans some of it. Before we can drink our water we have to test it to make sure it is safe. If like oil, gas or battery drips into the ground they could make water bad. That is some things about water. ...Brooke Taylor

Today we had a guest speker come in and show us how wells can get poluted. I think the reason is so not to polute to keep wells clean so people can be drinking safe water. When it comes to farmers, they use pesticides which will not polute the ground water, because the law says that if you polute with pesticides you go to jail, that includes fertilizer. The same goes for ceptic systems, there is a law. The reason I say this is because it is true. ...Paul
