Food for Thought Field Trip

The first grade studies recycling throughout the year. We went to visit a company that cares about our earth.

"Our class wit on a field trip to food for thought." by Megan

First we met Tim, Jody, and Pat. They were very kind and friendly. We were split up into three groups and then given a tour.

Louise wrote, "First we learned names. Second we went to kitchen. Third went to compost pile.
4th Got to taste jam and cherry concentrate. 5th Got on bus. Thank you for the jam and cherry concentrate. I really had a great time.
"

Alexis wrote," I like when we got to see the garden and I like your plans. I love your plans very much and I like your jam. Thank you for letting us taste your jam."

Kayla G. wrote," I like the jam. You have good jam. If you make more, I will come again."

Devin wrote, "I like watching them cook it. It was fun."

There were many jars of jam!

Kayla and Janique wrote, " Jody is showing us maple syrup and telling us how to get it form the maple trees. They recycle everything they can. Even their cherries. They make jam out of their cherries. I love food for thought!"

Kayla F. wrote, "The part I liked best was tasting the jam."

Janique wrote, "My favorite flavor was tart cherry and raspberry."

Jacob wrote, "The part that I liked best was tasting the blueberry butter."

Food for Thought produces wildcrafted foods in Honor, Michigan. Beyond making products that help sustain and preserve our natural world, they recycle 100 % of their paper and cardboard that use in shipping and packaging. They also recycle 100% of their food waste. The staff at Food for Thought were very kind and generous. We had a wonderful time with them.

This is the house where Tim and his family live. He built it out of recycled materials.

Here we are out by the garden. Nothing was growing because it was too cold.

Tim shows us soil that has composted matter in it. Luis writes, " Healthy soil makes healthy plants. Healthy plants make healthy food. Healthy food makes healthy bodies."

Tawny wrote, "I liked the box of worms.

Ramiro is in the production room. That day they were making cherry preserves. It smelled so good!

Anita is showing how all the jars of jam are filled and packaged.
